Cyber security is a major priority for governments, banks and other organisations throughout the world. Never before has the world been so vulnerable to cyber attacks. Most countries and organisations are increasing their cyber protection budgets for more security and protection. There is an increasing demand for skilled cyber security professionals with expertise and skills. Despite the advanced development of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, we still need talented graduates for tackling cybercrimes. 
There are countless good reasons why a degree in cyber security is worth the investment. In fact, by one crucially important metric you could say there are 3.5 million reasons — that’s the estimated number of unfilled cybersecurity jobs worldwide by 2021, up from roughly 1 million unfilled positions today.

The qualification has three stages, each comprising 120 credits. The first two stages including an Undergraduate Level 4/5 Diploma in Cyber Security is a 240 credit course designed to progress to the third stage final year of an Undergraduate BSc (Hons) Cyber Security, which can be studied on campus at Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge campus. The course is made up of 5 Level 4 compulsory modules and 1 optional module with a total of 120 credits and 4 Level 5 compulsory modules comprising 120 credits. If students decide to only study at level 4, they will only receive 120 credits and can get an exemption from year 1 of a UK undergraduate degree.

There is a huge demand for talented computing graduates due to global cyber threats and attacks. The course will fine-tune your network and data skills and make you ready to make your mark in the global cyber security industry. This course is being prepared for the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) certification, while close links to cyber security institutions such as OWASP and Cyber Crime Prevent bring industry experts into the classroom.

Applicant must possess the following for entry into Level 4 or 5 Diploma in Cyber Security; 

  1. The applicant must be 18 years or older at the start of the course. 
  2. Must have achieved a recognised UK or overseas qualification (equivalent)
  3. Must have completed 12 years of education. If completed 10 years of education then at least demonstrate a Level 3 qualification with minimum 'C' or 'Pass' grades in Mathematics and English. Provide relevant Local Board of Examination results from the home country, which must include at least 'C' Grade in English and 4 other subjects. 
  4. Mock Examination Result can also be accepted for initial Conditional Admission, pending the release of the Board of Examination Result. (This will be assessed on a case by case basis) 
  5. Mature Learners (21 years or older) with work experience in management or supervisory roles. (This will also be assessed on a case by case basis). 

Applicants will also be required to complete the following:
  1. Provide a CV and Personal Statement 
  2. Provide a copy of original qualification certificates and proof of ID, e.g. Passport 
  3. Applicants will also be invited to attend an online interview

English Language Requirements 
If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country then s/he must provide evidence of English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 5.5. We also accept other standard English tests and qualifications, as long as they meet the minimum requirements of your course. If a learner doesn't meet the English language requirements then s/he can achieve the required level by successfully completing a pre-sessional English course before starting the main course. 

To complete the course, students should have access to: 
  1. a laptop or Desktop PC with relevant online learning third-party Softwares, e.g. Zoom 
  2. a webcam and headphones 
  3. internet speeds with a minimum bandwidth of 600kbps (up/down), with a recommended speed of 1.5 Mbps (up/down)

01. Penetration Tester 
Penetration testers (often referred to as pen testers) are security professionals who help to identify and address security issues in organisations’ networks. This role requires a range of skills across information technology sector, including an understanding of networking, system administration, and software development. 
Salary Expectation: Someone starting as a beginner penetration tester can expect a salary of around £25,000/year. A registered professional Pen Tester with significant experience would expect to earn in the region of £55,000/Year, while a team leader could look at a salary in excess of £90,000/year. Many penetration testers work as a self-emplyed contractors and earn around £400-500 per day. 

02. Security Developer 
Cybersecurity is a key consideration during the development process, and to ensure that this is the case, many organisations are employing dedicated Security Developers. In this role, individuals are typically responsible for helping to define detailed documentation and evolve in the security strategy for the applications that the business providers.
Salary Expectation: The salary range can be enormously depending on the role, but an experienced Security Developer could expect to earn around £70,000/year.

03. Security Risk Analyst 
Security Risk Analyst professionals are responsible for helping organisations to manage their information security risks and ensure controls are accurately assessed. They are typically involved in understanding which threats could have the largest impact on a business. They will advise boards in non-technical language on how they should spend budgets mitigating these risks.
Salary Expectation: An average salary of a Security Risk Analyst is around £35,000/year.

04. Cyber Security Analyst 
Cyber Security Analysts (CSAs) have an important role to play in helping to protect organisations against cyber threats. They use a wide range of logical techniques and relevant technologies in order to detect, prevent and manage threats against systems. The key responsibilities of a CSA typically include monitoring networks for breaches and other types of attack, as well as investigating software generated security alerts and responding to incidents. 
Salary Expectation: typically starting salary of a CSAs  will be between £25,000 and £35,000 – more experienced analysts could expect to earn up to £50,000/year.

05. Network Security Engineer
A Network Security Engineer is responsible for running and maintaining security systems of an organisation. The key requirements of the role include configuration, deployment, and optimisation of firewalls as well as managing network monitoring tools such as SIEM, intrusion detection, and endpoint detection and response platforms. An engineer will also oversee router, switch, and virtual private network (VPN) maintenance.
Salary Expectation: The average salary for a Network Security Engineer is around £45,000/year.
About Ofqual 
The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England. A non-ministerial government department with jurisdiction in England. An Ofqual regulated Diploma Level 4 & 5 (240 credits) course is equivalent to the Year 1 and Year 2 of a three years’ UK Bachelor’s degree. Similarly, a regulated Diploma Level 7 course carries 120 credits, gives entry onto an MBA top-up degree programme at a range of UK universities. The course will provide full exemption towards MBA course work and students only have to complete one module and a research project directly with the university.  

Progression Routes to UK University Degrees
Completion of Diploma in Cyber Security, Level 4&5 will meet the university’s standard academic entry requirements of an undergraduate final year (top-up) degree. However, each applicant will be subject to individual assessment and other entry requirements which may affect university entry.
